Dragon Age: The Veilguard is just around the corner, but BioWare and EA are still dropping hints about what players can expect. During Sony's recent State of Play, a fresh gameplay trailer for The Veilguard showcased the player's character, Rook, leading her comrades into a high-stakes battle against a dragon. It's uncertain how far into the game this scene occurs, but Rook and her team are actively searching for their adversary, Ghilan'nain. Unable to locate her, they instead confront one of her blighted dragons. This dragon, however, is no ordinary foe; it's an ice dragon, making it susceptible to fire attacks that a typical dragon would easily withstand.

Rook's character build in this scenario is that of a Mage, one of the three classes available for players to choose when creating their version of the game's protagonist. For this encounter, Rook primarily employs ranged attacks using her staff, coupled with magical dodge maneuvers to keep her distance from the dragon. The trailer also highlights how players can synchronize their companions' attacks to maximize damage on their target. Unfortunately, it appears that Rook and her allies may have walked into a trap. Just as the dragon is on the brink of defeat, Ghilan'nain arrives with her blighted forces and a second dragon in tow. Suddenly, what seemed like a winnable battle takes a dramatic turn in favor of the evil goddess. Fans will have to wait until next month to discover how this confrontation unfolds.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on October 31.
