As the Halloween launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard approaches, BioWare has unveiled a launch trailer to provide players with a final glimpse into the latest installment of the franchise. Earlier trailers for The Veilguard primarily introduced players to Tevinter, the game's setting, and the companions who will join them on their journey. However, the new launch trailer shifts its focus to the formidable enemies players will encounter as they strive to protect Thedas.
"Artifacts that have been dormant for centuries are awakening," a voiceover declares as a metallic monster, reminiscent of Animated Armor, comes to life and wreaks havoc. Later, an unseen creature with an excessive number of tentacles is seen seizing a guard by the throat, presumably leading him to his demise. "The dead… stir more easily than they should," comments Emmrich Volkarin, a companion character and the game's resident necromancer. Another voiceover reveals that dragons have been "feeding on the Blight" and announces that "Darkspawn are charging to Weisshaupt," the headquarters of the Grey Wardens faction. The trailer paints a grim picture for Thedas and its inhabitants.
The trailer also features the game's main antagonist, Solas, who wields the unstable power he acquired by tearing open The Veil, his eyes glowing a greenish-blue as magic swirls around his hands. Solas was a romance option for players in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but he is not part of the companion roster this time around—destroying the world tends to hinder romantic prospects. Overall, it appears that Rook and the rest of The Veilguard crew will face numerous challenges if they hope to thwart Solas' nefarious plans and save Thedas.
