The Dreamlight Valley recipe list expands with each update. In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you'll need to cultivate crops and forage for food as part of your adventure in the Valley. Once you've collected a variety of ingredients, you'll likely want to try your hand at cooking some delightful meals. Cooking can increase the value of your crops when selling or can be gifted to various characters in the Valley to enhance your friendship with them.

Early in the game, you'll be introduced to recipe books, which teach you how to prepare a single dish. While this occurs infrequently throughout the game, you can also discover new recipes by experimenting. If you combine the correct ingredients in the pot, you'll create a new dish and unlock that recipe in your collection. This means you can make any dish in the game as long as you know the required ingredients and have them on hand.

Recipes in Disney Dreamlight Valley require either specific ingredients or any ingredient from a certain category. For instance, Creamy Garlic Scallops need Scallops, Garlic, Lemon, and Butter. On the other hand, Fish Steak requires Tomato, Basil, and any fish, such as Cod, Salmon, or Tuna.

These recipes are available in the base game and don't require additional purchases. Meals vary in the number of ingredients needed to cook them, ranging from one to five ingredients.

New recipes were added on December 5, 2023, with the A Rift in Time expansion, and on November 20, 2024, with The Storybook Vale expansion, both of which must be purchased separately.

Each meal in Disney Dreamlight Valley provides energy, but not all are equally beneficial. Higher-star meals don't always offer the most energy. Among the highest energy-providing meals, Berry Salad stands out as the most efficient use of time and ingredients. This simple 3-star meal can replenish nearly 80% of your gold energy, especially when made with extra berries. Given the ease of foraging the required berries, it's a quick and effective meal choice to keep on hand.
