Dubai Active 2024, the leading health, fitness, and wellness expo in the Middle East, is set to take place from October 25-27 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City. Organized by IEG Middle East in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Tourism, the event will showcase over 600 athletes and influencers, drawing more than 38,000 fitness enthusiasts. Attendees can anticipate engaging workout sessions led by renowned global fitness icons such as Leana Deeb, Kayla Itsines, and Courtney Black. The expo also kicks off the Dubai Fitness Challenge's month-long wellness initiative.

Earlier this month, in exclusive interviews with City Times, Leana and Courtney discussed their personal fitness journeys, sharing their unique philosophies. Meanwhile, Kayla, who previously talked about integrating fitness into a 9-to-5 lifestyle, returns with new tips. This time, the globally acclaimed personal trainer, dedicated to empowering women with the resources needed for better health, fitness, and confidence, offers essential advice for post-pregnancy training. Here are Kayla's insights:

'Rest and recover' is paramount when considering post-pregnancy training. It's crucial to take adequate time to rest and recover, consulting with healthcare professionals to ensure a safe return to fitness. Whether through natural birth or a c-section, the typical waiting period is about six weeks. While returning to the gym before this period is discouraged, gentle activities can help in moving the body and clearing the mind.

Walking is the first recommendation, ideally during naptime. For instance, taking a child out in a pram/stroller for an hour-long walk around the 4-5 week mark. Additionally, women can explore the SWEAT app for various programs tailored for both pregnancy and post-c-section training.

Focusing on 'Breathing and stretching' is essential, as the body's foundations need rebuilding. This involves working on pelvic floor muscles, breathing exercises, and limited stretching. Post-pregnancy is a time when a woman's body may feel unfamiliar, so mental health should be prioritized alongside activities like walking, stretching, breathing exercises, meditation, adequate rest, and a balanced diet. It's important to remember that this phase is temporary, and returning to fitness prematurely or against medical advice could result in injury. If there's one message for post-pregnancy self, it would be, 'It won't always feel this way; you will look back with pride - enjoy these moments now, as you will get there.'
