Dubai has given the green light to the 'Suspended Transport Systems Project', a cutting-edge 65km smart mobility network linking Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khor, and Zabeel. The Executive Council of Dubai announced this on Tuesday, positioning it as part of a broader strategy to solidify Dubai's dominance across various sectors over the next ten years.
According to the Dubai Media Office (DMO), this innovative system is set to boost the proportion of autonomous or driverless public transport journeys in Dubai to 25% of all trips by 2030. 'The suspended transport system will be seamlessly integrated with other transportation modes, enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of travel within the emirate,' DMO elaborated.
While specifics about the transport system remain undisclosed, the Roads and Transport Authority previously showcased mock-up models of Dubai Sky pods at a government summit. These sky pods, based on suspended transport technology, are affixed to elevated beams that traverse the city. Designed to remain level even on inclines, they aim to prevent a 'roller-coaster' effect and ensure a smooth ride for passengers.
One of the more intriguing aspects of the sky pods is their elevated position, which allows passengers to enjoy a more panoramic view of the city as they travel.
