One might argue that fashion is a somewhat subjective matter, but certain trends possess a magnetic allure at specific times, capturing the admiration—or disdain—of the fashion-forward. In a multicultural hub like Dubai, where both local and international brands coexist, your choices span the spectrum of global catwalks, making it crucial to stay attuned to the current pulse of fashion. Fortunately, you don't have to navigate this alone. Following Dubai's annual fashion week, we sought insights from designers about their mood boards for the season and the trends that are either cool or cringe-worthy.

1. Go big or go homeAmmar Al Tahan, spokesperson for Kuwaiti brand Riva Fashion and CEO of Armada Retail Concept, highlights the popularity of oversized blazers. "This look combines structure with comfort, making it versatile for any occasion, be it casual or formal. The oversized silhouette offers greater freedom of movement, suits various body types, and can be styled in multiple ways." Didi Akinyelure, Creative Director of London-based sustainable womenswear and footwear brand April&Alex, adds, "Bold colors, silhouettes, and patterns are prevalent both on and off the runways, and I'm particularly fond of this trend."

2. Prints charmingThere's an undeniable appeal in a recurring motif that captures attention. But how should one wear them? "Prints are definitely trending this season. Bold patterns, including florals, animal prints, and tropical motifs, are very popular. Mixing and matching different prints has also become a statement trend, allowing for more creative and personalized styling," explains Al Tahan. However, some designers are not fans of the self-serving trend for logo prints. Oleg Ovsiev and Angelika Kaplina of Russian brand Viva Vox note, "It's great to see the trend for logo prints slowly fading away."

3. Seasonal colorsChoosing a color palette that suits both you and the season can be daunting but is certainly achievable. "The trend colors for this season blend warm, bold, and nature-inspired tones with metallics. Soft neutrals, dusty rose, forest green, rich red, chocolate brown, and camouflage khaki are some of the key colors," explains Al Tahan.

4. Metallics make a comebackIt's time to embrace the enduring presence of metallics. "Metallics are definitely catching my eye this season. You can see this inspiration translated into my new collection of shoes launching next year, featuring a range of metallic shades," says Akinyelure.

5. Sustainable fashionAs more designers and fashion houses address industry waste, they are also striving to become eco-friendly. "Designers&Us fully supports the rise of sustainable fashion practices. The movement towards eco-friendly materials and ethical production methods aligns with growing environmental awareness. This trend not only promotes responsibility within the industry but also encourages creativity as designers innovate with sustainable fabrics and techniques, resulting in unique and forward-thinking designs," says Tarek Derki, CEO at luxury fashion house Designers&Us.

Unfortunate patterns1. Low blowThe era of ultra-low-rise jeans (and pants) should be over, according to Al Tahan, who explains, "It can be really difficult to pull off for most body types and lacks functionality."

2. Quiet luxuryThere's been a noticeable decline in the "quiet luxury" trend on the red carpet, a development that Ovsiev and Kaplina welcome. "We are not really fond of the 'quiet luxury' trend and are glad it's being seen less on the catwalks. Instead, there's more playfulness, romanticism, and bold use of colors. You really feel the joy of individual expression by designers in all fashion capitals of the world," they say.
