To address illicit activities and standardize transactions, Dubai has ramped up its inspection initiatives in the gas oil (diesel) market. The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is ensuring that diesel is handled, moved, stored, and dispersed within the emirate in accordance with UAE standards. A dedicated joint field inspection team has started conducting field inspections and surveillance in collaboration with various organizations, including the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, the Directorate General of Dubai Civil Defence, the Department of Economy and Tourism, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the Emirates National Oil Company.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, emphasized that following the guidance of the wise leadership, the DSCE oversees business operations and enforces the most stringent international standards for safety and security. 'Ensuring adherence to the approved specifications and standards for gas oil (diesel) is paramount for us. These inspection drives underscore our dedication to fostering a just and sustainable trading ecosystem and safeguarding the interests of consumers and compliant suppliers,' Al Tayer added.

'These coordinated inspection drives, carried out with the field inspection team, are aimed at curbing illegal activities such as the sale of petroleum products that do not meet UAE standards, the distribution of diesel in unauthorized locations that threaten public safety and security, environmental, soil, and groundwater contamination from diesel spills, the storage of diesel using unauthorized and unsuitable methods and tanks, and the use of unapproved and uncertified transportation for the distribution of diesel,' explained Ahmad Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the DSCE and Chairman of the Dubai Regulatory Committee for Petroleum Products.

The committee is also committed to upholding the highest levels of security and safety in all aspects of diesel trading, including transportation, storage, and distribution, whether at diesel trading facilities or through transportation and distribution tanks.
