As the iconic driverless train marks its 15th anniversary on September 9, the Dubai Ruler took to X to express his gratitude to the Metro workers for their dedication. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted that the Dubai Metro has carried 2.4 billion passengers over more than 4.3 million trips. He also noted that the Metro has achieved a 99.7 per cent adherence to its schedule, with the goal now set on reaching 100 per cent. The Ruler emphasized that 'punctuality is a culture, a virtue, and a noble cultural value,' and that the Metro embodies this culture of the emirate. Sheikh Mohammed extended his 'thanks and appreciation to all Dubai Metro workers for their efforts in upholding this cultural value.'
To commemorate the 15th anniversary, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is launching a series of limited-edition items and initiatives. Among these, 'Metro babies' born on September 9 can benefit from an academic sponsorship by RTA to further their education, subject to specific conditions. Additionally, Metro babies born between 2009 and 2023 are invited to a special celebration at Legoland Dubai on September 21, 2024. Residents of the UAE can enjoy musical performances at various Metro stations from September 21 to 27, featuring both Emirati and international artists. A special promotion includes 5,000 discount Nol cards for winners who discover a unique code on the sticks of limited-edition Metro-shaped ice cream. Alongside Metro-themed souvenirs and limited-edition post stamps, special Nol cards designed by Lego Dubai will also be issued.
