Two passengers from Dubai were apprehended by Delhi Customs for attempting to smuggle gold into Delhi, as announced on social media. The arrests took place on October 11 when the duo was caught trying to bring in 24-carat gold in the form of bangles, weighing 816 grams. The Customs authority stated that further investigations are ongoing. A video shared by the Customs showed one of the passengers removing the concealed bangles from under his sleeves.
For male passengers who have resided abroad for over a year, they are allowed to bring in gold jewelry up to 20 grams, with a value limit of Dh2,500 (Rs50,000), duty-free. Female passengers are permitted double that amount, up to 40 grams with a value cap of Dh5,000 (Rs100,000). Additionally, Indian passport holders or those of Indian origin who have stayed abroad for at least six months can import up to one kilogram of gold (including ornaments) upon paying the applicable customs duties.
Earlier this month, Delhi Customs seized twelve iPhone 16 Pro Max from passengers arriving from Dubai. In a separate incident in July, Customs officials in Chennai intercepted approximately 3.99 kg of gold concealed within a coffee-maker by a passenger traveling from Dubai.
