The students who survived the tragic rollover accident that claimed the life of a 7-year-old earlier this week were showered with gifts and well-wishes from the Dubai Police. Officers from the Dubai Police visited the recovering students at Al Jalila and Rashid Hospitals, as well as those who had returned to their homes. The police shared images from their visit on Saturday, expressing their hope for the students' swift recovery and a prompt return to their studies. Led by Lt-Col Rashid Mohammed Salem, the director of Lahbab Police Station, the officers presented the students with flowers and gifts.
The Dubai Police reported that the accident occurred on Hatta-Lahbab Road on Tuesday, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to 11 others, including the driver. Initial findings suggest that the accident was due to excessive speed, negligence, and lack of attention by the driver, causing a loss of control that led to the vehicle veering off, colliding with a metal barrier, and overturning in a sandy area off the road.
A police source revealed to Khaleej Times that the 12 passengers, all Asian, were crammed into a car, a severe violation of the passenger limit and a punishable offense in the UAE. In a separate account, one of the surviving students, S.T., who was in the car, described the incident to Khaleej Times. "It happened so fast. The car hit the iron barrier and overturned maybe two or three times. The glass broke and sand got in. I closed my eyes and prayed for the car to stop rolling," said the young Bangladeshi student. S.T. noted that the accident happened near a construction site, where laborers rushed to help, turning the car over and discovering a boy trapped underneath. Everyone immediately began reciting prayers.
S.T. and 11 others were packed into a 7-seater SUV hired by a group of parents to transport the students to their schools in Garhoud from their homes near Madam area in Sharjah.
