Dubai has advanced four positions to secure the 5th spot among the world's top city brands, trailing only London, New York, Paris, and Tokyo, according to the recent Brand Finance Global City Index released on Thursday.
Dubai's leading position in reputation is mirrored by its top ranking in the business and investment category. The city has also made significant strides in terms of local employment consideration (rising from 16th to 8th) and remote work consideration (climbing from 24th to 4th). The emirate is renowned for its innovation and startup ecosystem, with initiatives like the Dubai Future Foundation contributing to its first-place ranking for future growth potential. Furthermore, Dubai's second-place ranking for a robust and stable economy and third-place ranking for favorable personal taxation further cements its status as a prime investment destination, making it the top city globally for investment consideration.
"Dubai's ascent to become the world's fifth-best city brand is largely attributed to its global first-place ranking in reputation. This improved perception reflects the effectiveness of the UAE government's strategic investments in infrastructure, tourism, and the business environment. The significant enhancements in Dubai's consideration metrics further underscore the city's growing appeal as a leading destination for visitors, residents, businesses, and global investors," stated Andrew Campbell, Managing Director of Brand Finance Middle East.
The latest study encompassed responses from over 15,000 respondents across 20 countries, providing a comprehensive view of how the world's leading city brands are perceived. Respondents evaluated 100 cities based on familiarity, reputation, and consideration, indicating how strongly these cities are viewed as ideal places for living, working, studying, visiting, retiring, and investing.
Abu Dhabi maintained its 2023 global ranking at 30, though it improved by 8 spots in consideration, now ranking 24. Notably, the city advanced 12 ranks for investment consideration and 9 globally for remote work consideration, up 15 ranks from 2023. Abu Dhabi also ranks impressively at 5 in the business and investment pillar, including 4 for being great for startups and innovations, and 2 for future growth potential. It has also risen 16 ranks to 20 globally for being perceived as a leader in science and technology, further highlighting the city's increasing attractiveness as an innovation hub.
