Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed 20 out of 40 planned air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders across various strategic locations in the emirate. Each facility provides a cool respite for drivers, equipped with snack vending machines, a water dispenser, and a mobile phone charging station. These areas can accommodate up to 10 individuals, varying by location, and also feature ample motorcycle parking spaces. The initiative aims to enhance the comfort of delivery riders during downtime, boosting their satisfaction and adherence to traffic regulations.
The RTA plans to distribute a total of 40 such rest areas in high-demand zones including Hessa Street, Al Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, Al Karama, Riggat Al Buteen, Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road), The Greens, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Rashdiya, Al Satwa, Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud Metha, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, Last Exit Al Khawaneej, Dubai Motor City, and Al Garhoud. These locations are chosen for their high demand for delivery services.
This project is part of a broader strategy to improve traffic safety and achieve the goals of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy, aiming for 'Zero Fatalities' to position Dubai as a global leader in traffic safety, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA. The construction of these rest areas also responds to the rapid expansion of the delivery sector, with 2,535 companies operating 40,088 delivery motorcycles in Dubai as of June last year.
