Dubai's Metro Music Festival is scheduled to make a comeback at five prominent metro stations this September, as announced by the Dubai Media Office on Tuesday.
The fourth iteration of the festival will run from September 21 to 27. Daily performances will be staged from 5pm to 10pm at five key metro stations: Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, BurJuman, Union, and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre. All performances will be rotated throughout the festival to ensure coverage of all five stations.
The stations will be brought to life as audiences are enthralled by daily performances from 20 skilled musicians from the UAE and around the globe. These artists will display their creative prowess across a variety of instruments, genres, and styles, adding a unique flair to commuters' journeys.
The event is organized by Brand Dubai, the creative division of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The festival will present a diverse mix of traditional and avant-garde musicians, from classical performers to innovative fusion artists. Commuters will experience a wide array of musical styles, with participants demonstrating their talents on various instruments, including string, percussion, wind, and unique creations made from everyday objects.
Some of the instruments featured this year include the Qanun (a type of string instrument), keyboard, drums, accordion, flute, violin, saxophone, piano, balafon, darbuka, keytar, marimba, and other percussion instruments from around the world. Musicians will also perform on the electric guitar, pipe drum, hand pans, and homemade instruments.
Performances will differ from previous years, offering something distinctive for every audience, even within the metro cabins. Major events include a performance by a nine-year-old prodigy on the Qanun, a piano performance by a 14-year-old Emirati boy with autism, an innovative musical showcase featuring instruments crafted from recycled materials, and a street artist performance celebrating traditional heritage music.
Attendees will also relish beatboxing performances, a puppet show accompanied by live music, and a vibrant display of global rhythms, featuring a diverse array of percussion instruments and musical styles. For the younger audience, the festival will feature a unique drumming show with children and eye-catching drumming acts enhanced with light effects.
