As summer temperatures in Dubai frequently climb above 41°C during the day, numerous residents are seeking relief in the cooler, nighttime swimming sessions. Recognizing this demand, Dubai authorities introduced three new night swimming beaches last year. Rechel Hoco, a 23-year-old Filipino content creator known as 'Rechel in Dubai,' frequents these night beaches. 'Being an island girl from the Philippines, I love the beach, and I'm happy Dubai offers these night beaches,' she shared with Khaleej Times.
Rechel, who has lived in Dubai for 1.5 years, noted that night swimming has become a favorite activity for her and her siblings. 'Given our work schedules, nighttime is our only free period, and the night beaches provide a tranquil and refreshing setting to relax,' she explained. She particularly enjoys the ambiance of the night beaches in Dubai, describing it as 'quiet, slow, and calming.'
The Dubai Municipality has established 3800-metre-long night swimming beaches in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1, equipped with bright lighting systems to assist lifeguards in monitoring swimmers. Electronic screens display safety messages to enhance awareness among beachgoers. Rechel finds her night swimming experience 'truly enjoyable,' noting that 'the water is warm, and there are little to no waves, allowing for a relaxing and stress-relieving atmosphere.'
Mazen, a 25-year-old Emirati, has also taken to night swimming. 'Since May began, I've avoided daytime beach visits due to the heat and risk of dehydration. A friend suggested the night beaches, and it's now a regular habit,' he said. Mazen appreciates the convenience and safety measures provided by the night beaches, including bright lighting and lifeguard presence, which give him peace of mind and eliminate concerns about crowds or heat.
For Nadia Aubert, a 33-year-old French expat, the night beaches serve as a sanctuary. 'I often visit very late, around 2am, when the beaches are nearly empty. It's incredibly peaceful and serene, allowing me to disconnect from the city's hustle and bustle,' she explained. Nadia finds the night swimming experience rejuvenating, with the warm water and calming atmosphere helping her unwind and recharge before returning home.
