The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has finalized improvements on Umm Suqeim Street with the inauguration of a new road that leads directly to Kings' School. This newly opened street, measuring 500 meters and featuring two lanes in each direction, links the school's entrances to the recently built detour in the vicinity. This initiative has streamlined the ingress and egress of vehicles to the school, reducing traffic congestion by as much as 40% during peak hours.
These enhancements are integral to RTA's swift traffic improvement plan for 2024, reflecting a dedication to enhancing the road network, facilitating traffic flow, and increasing road capacity to align with Dubai's sustainable development. Additionally, it bolsters traffic safety norms for all road users, especially those involved in school transportation and parents.
The Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, which extends 4.6 km from the Al Khail Road intersection to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection, aims to improve connectivity among four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Consequently, the street's capacity is expected to increase by 30%, handling up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, according to Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA.
In line with these recent upgrades, RTA has designated 200 temporary parking spaces to support school-goers, including teachers and parents, for the 2024-2025 academic year. This strategy ensures organized parking, preventing haphazard parking that leads to congestion and time wastage during vehicle entry and exit in the area. This ultimately contributes to maintaining the highest traffic safety standards and maximizes public satisfaction, positioning Dubai as the premier city for living globally, as concluded by Al Shehhi.
