The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has recently initiated multiple inspection campaigns aimed at heavy vehicles and trucks that are overloaded. The primary objective of these campaigns is to enhance transportation safety and elevate traffic safety standards for all heavy vehicle operators across the Emirate. Additionally, these campaigns seek to increase awareness among drivers about the dangers associated with protruding and overloaded cargo. The inspections have been conducted on roads with heavy traffic of such vehicles, including Al Maktoum International Airport Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Emirates Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and Al Khail Road.
The risks posed by overloaded cargo include potential truck rollovers, falling materials, endangering other road users, and reducing the lifespan of roads. Drivers were cautioned against transporting hazardous and flammable materials without the appropriate licensing, according to Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the Public Transport Agency, RTA. These campaigns are integral to RTA's strategic plans, which are executed throughout the year. Such initiatives provide educational and informational messages to drivers, encouraging them to adhere to technical standards and traffic safety requirements for the safe operation of trucks, especially during the summer season.
