Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated two significant bridges at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 on Al Khail Road, heading towards Jebel Ali. These bridges, which span a total of 1,350 meters, can accommodate approximately 8,000 vehicles per hour. The launch of these bridges is part of a larger initiative by the RTA to cut travel time by 30% and boost the capacity of existing intersections and bridges by 19,600 vehicles per hour.
The Al Khail Road Development Project, which includes the construction of 3,300-meter-long bridges and the widening of lanes over 6,820 meters, is 80% complete, according to the RTA. These enhancements are distributed across seven locations on Al Khail Road, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
The Zaa'beel bridge, measuring 700 meters with three lanes, links traffic from Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road en route to Jebel Ali, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The Al Quoz 1 bridge, 650 meters long with two lanes, connects traffic from Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali, handling 3,200 vehicles per hour.
Improvement works are underway at seven sites along Al Khail Road, as stated by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. The project is 80% complete. Last May, RTA finished widening works in Al Jaddaf and Business Bay, adding a new 600-meter lane at Al Jaddaf to enhance traffic flow towards Deira, increasing capacity by 2,000 vehicles per hour. A new 435-meter lane was also added to improve traffic flow and safety towards Business Bay and Jebel Ali.
According to the plan, three bridges will open by the end of October at three locations, serving traffic towards Deira. Al Tayer emphasized that the Al Khail Road Development Project is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing parallel and supporting road corridors to Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Al Khail Road, a major arterial road in Dubai, extends from the Business Bay Crossing to its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, featuring five lanes in each direction, expanding to over six lanes in certain sections.
