Racing alongside hundreds of participants through the Arabian Gulf and cycling along one of Dubai's busiest highways was an extraordinary experience that truly showcased the beauty of the UAE. Despite feeling exhausted by the time I reached the run segment, the stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai kept me motivated to finish strong. This is my personal account of participating in the inaugural Dubai T100 Triathlon last month.

Like over 800 others, I gathered at Dubai's Sunrise Beach early on a Saturday morning to partake in the Dubai T100 Sprint Triathlon. Nervous excitement filled the air as we prepared for the 750m swim, 20km bike ride, and 5km run. As we waited to dive into the water, the Dubai skyline began to emerge, with the golden sunrise casting a breathtaking glow. The anxiety in my stomach dissipated, replaced by a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to share this thrilling experience with so many like-minded individuals in such a unique setting.

Before I knew it, my 'wave' of swimmers was called to the start, and I sprinted into the ocean. The rest of the race seemed to pass in a blur, filled with challenges but also immense joy. It was an adventure I will never forget, and the euphoria at the finish line was unparalleled. With the second edition already scheduled for November 16-17 next year, I am eager to encourage as many UAE residents as possible to join me in this incredible event. Here are five reasons why the Dubai T100 Sprint Triathlon should be on your 2025 bucket list:

1) Make new friends: The event brings together active, open-minded, and sociable individuals, providing a fantastic opportunity to meet new people.

2) Become fitter and faster: Triathlon training offers a full-body workout, motivating you to maintain a regular exercise routine.

3) Learn new skills: Training for a triathlon allows you to revisit and improve basic skills like swimming and cycling.

4) Improve your confidence: Completing a triathlon, even a sprint distance, is a remarkable achievement that boosts your confidence.

5) Compete alongside the world’s top triathletes: Participating in the same event as Olympic triathletes and sport stars is an exhilarating experience.

As a novice triathlete, here are five tips to ensure your first triathlon is a success:

1) Find a group to train with: Joining a community can make training more enjoyable and informative.

2) Invest in a tri suit: A triathlon suit simplifies the transition between swim, bike, and run.

3) Use a good bike: A lightweight, aerodynamic road bike can significantly improve your performance.

4) Train hard but avoid overtraining: Balance your training with rest to prevent injuries.

5) Stay hydrated: Electrolyte tablets can be crucial, especially during the UAE's hot months.
