Ducab Cables, boasting a 44-year legacy in the UAE's cable and wire manufacturing sector, has played a pivotal role in facilitating the transition to more efficient and sustainable energy sources. Charles Mellagui, the CEO of Ducab Cables Business, recently addressed the CRU Wire and Cable Conference 2024 in Amsterdam. He highlighted that power generation, primarily fueled by coal and LNG, remains the largest emitter of carbon dioxide (CO2). Although solar and wind power have seen a recent surge, they currently account for just 13% of total power generation. Mellagui emphasized Ducab's commitment to cleaner power generation and its involvement in global renewable energy projects like the Al Dhafra project, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and the Hornsea One offshore wind farm in the UK. Ducab is also actively shaping new government policies to enhance green energy production. Mellagui noted that the current 3870 gigawatts of green power, including solar, wind, and nuclear, is projected to rise to 11173 gigawatts by 2030, significantly impacting the cable and related industries. The UAE's ambitious Energy Strategy 2050 aims to increase renewable energy's share to 44% by 2050, with investments reaching Dh200 billion by 2030, driving substantial demand for cables. Mellagui explained that the cable industry will be crucial in the energy transition, supporting increased capacity, grid modernization, electric vehicle charging, and data centers powered by AI technology. Ducab is developing new cable types for these applications and operates its own solar farm to power its manufacturing facilities. Committed to environmental sustainability, Ducab aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and plans to use only green energy, with at least 50% of its innovative products being environmentally friendly. Mellagui affirmed Ducab's commitment to transitioning from 'orange' to 'green' in every sense, contributing to the preservation of our planet.
