The upcoming installment in Koei Tecmo's renowned hack-and-slash franchise, Dynasty Warriors, is just around the corner. Revealed during Sony's September State of Play, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is slated for release on January 17, 2025. Alongside the release date, Sony provided fans with a wealth of new gameplay footage and additional insights into the game's narrative.
Set prior to the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the game delves into the ascent of Zhang Jiao and the events leading up to this pivotal moment. While maintaining its signature musou-style combat, the latest trailer suggests a slightly more strategic depth. Dynasty Warriors: Origins marks the tenth mainline entry in the series and succeeds 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9. As the title suggests, Origins is set at the inception of the Dynasty Warriors timeline. Currently, the game is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Other highlights from the State of Play event include a Soul Reaver 1+2 remaster collection, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima titled Ghost of Yotei, new DualSense color options, and updates to popular games like Astro Bot, which will receive a free DLC.
