An earthquake measuring 5.3 struck the Mulugu district of Telangana on Wednesday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The NCS reported that the tremor was recorded at approximately 7.27am (local time) on Wednesday and was centered around the Mulugu region at a depth of 40 km. There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Further details are awaited.

India is divided into four Seismic zones: Zone II, Zone III, Zone IV, and Zone V. Zone V is the most seismically active, while Zone II is the least. Telangana falls under Zone II, which is a low-intensity zone.

Approximately 11% of the country is in Zone V, around 18% in Zone IV, approximately 30% in Zone III, and the remaining in Zone II. A total of about 59% of India's landmass, covering all states, is susceptible to earthquakes of varying intensities.
