Australian builder Echo Yachts has commenced construction on a fully custom, 57-metre catamaran named ASC57. The project was commissioned by a seasoned private client in March 2024 and is set to become the world's largest sail-powered catamaran upon completion. The ASC57 will feature a twin-Dynarig sail system by Southern Spars, boasting a total sail area of 1660 square metres, and an 'extremely efficient' aluminium hull designed for 'eco-efficient, long-range cruising'. Additionally, a wide range of water toys and helicopter capabilities have been confirmed.

Dykstra Naval Architects will oversee the exterior styling, layout, and naval architecture, while One2Three Naval Architects will handle the details and structural design. This collaborative effort includes renowned projects such as the 106.7-metre Black Pearl, the 66.9-metre Hetairos, the world's largest trimaran White Rabbit, and Australia's largest catamaran, Charley 2.

'Echo Yachts is incredibly excited and proud to have been chosen to custom build this magnificent sailing superyacht,' said Mark Stothard, shipyard owner and director. 'We look forward to bringing this yacht to life with our client, Dykstra, and One2Three. This new superyacht will redefine 'green superyacht design' with its low-resistance catamaran hull, sail-powered capabilities, and other emission-reducing technologies.'

Steve Quigley, owner and director of One2Three Naval Architects, added: 'This sailing catamaran will solidify Echo Yachts' Australian build capability on the global stage for unique superyachts.' The catamaran's sail power will be supported by a regenerative power system that includes twin shaft generators and a battery storage system, enabling 'silent running under sail'. Currently, the 46.5-metre ArtExplorer leads the sail-powered catamaran sector.
