“The UAE has witnessed a rise in schools offering diverse curriculums. As the population expanded, there was a significant demand for educational institutions, which the UAE has adeptly addressed,” states Marium Tarar. Tarar, who has been a teacher since 2011 and currently works at Greenfield International School in Dubai, pursued a PGCE from the University of Reading after a stint in an advertising agency in London. Since moving to Dubai 14 years ago, Tarar has found the city to be a welcoming home for her and her family. As a homeroom teacher, she instructs all subjects and specializes in English across various age groups. Tarar, who has taught in the UK, East Africa, and Pakistan, believes that the UAE provides the most rigorous education and supports students to achieve their full potential.
The UAE has seen a substantial increase in the number of schools due to the global demand for education. Tarar finds teaching diverse cultural backgrounds enriching and has adapted Chinese math teaching strategies from her students. She also assists those needing extra support in English. Tarar noted that the British curriculum is the most popular in the UAE, followed by the American and IB curriculums. The UAE also offers numerous higher education courses at both international and local universities, recognized globally.
Rohma Nomani Theunissen, who launched the GCC’s first luxury and fashion-focused copywriting digital academy in Dubai, emphasizes the importance of business acumen in copywriting. Theunissen, a graduate of McGill University and Parsons School of Design, moved to Dubai after working in New York and has been instrumental in formalizing copywriting courses. Her academy provides comprehensive training from niche selection to client strategies, complete with a mentorship program and virtual community.
Mahvish Gul, an economist and academic practitioner in Dubai for 24 years, highlights the vast options available for high school graduates in the UAE. Gul, who holds degrees from McGill University and Northampton University, has taught at several prestigious institutions in Dubai. She observes a significant evolution in the education standard since 2000, with a culture of learning and competitiveness in the higher education sector.
