Edvin H Design has introduced an 80-metre concept yacht named Awakening, which is designed with an eco-conscious approach. The superyacht features solar panels cleverly hidden as retractable awnings and an aft swim platform that can capture wave energy from the ocean.
The sustainability theme extends to the owner's deck, which includes a semi-enclosed workspace with tablets powered by discreet solar panels. The foredeck, referred to as 'Solar City' by the designer, transforms into a solar panel array that powers the entertainment system, featuring a deck-integrated projector and television screen.
The main deck caters to gourmet enthusiasts with a Teppanyaki kitchen, also powered by solar energy. This space incorporates materials like glass-laminated copper, natural stone, and stainless steel. On the sundeck, a fully integrated wellness area offers four solar-powered baths and whirlpools, along with a central sauna.
Adventure-loving owners will find the lower deck appealing, as it houses various toys such as electric mountain bikes, single-person solar-electric tenders, and water scooters. The tenders can enter the superyacht through side hatches designed to stabilize movement during docking. These hatches also feature a retractable swim-in platform, making re-entry after a swim easier.
There has been a recent surge in eco-conscious yacht concepts, including the Rossinavi entry named Solsea. This yacht can cruise in full-electric mode for 80% of a transatlantic crossing and includes a pool cover that serves as both shade and a solar surface.
