Egyptian billionaire and serial entrepreneur Naguib Sawiris has introduced a new digital platform tailored for Gen Z. Moniify is designed to equip the upcoming generation of entrepreneurs and investors with the tools to make informed financial decisions by offering insights and analyses on regions and sectors with high growth potential.
Based in the UAE, Moniify will focus on emerging markets, particularly those in industries shaping the future, such as technology, AI, cryptocurrency, and space exploration. Sawiris highlighted several reasons for choosing the UAE as the platform's headquarters. 'It’s centrally located and offers freedom of movement with a high level of safety,' he noted. 'The ease of doing business in the UAE is unparalleled, with everything being handled digitally, making it straightforward to operate.'
Sawiris also commended the vision of Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for establishing Dubai Media City decades ago, which was a groundbreaking initiative at the time. He further explained his motivation for launching Moniify, stating, 'Young people today require more than just traditional business and finance news. They often ask me about the secret to success, and that's what drives me to provide MONIIFY as a formula for them to realize their dreams.'
Dr. Yaser Bishr, Advisor to the chairman, emphasized the platform's mission to empower the younger generation. 'Our primary goal is to assist young people in achieving financial independence,' he said. 'We aim to guide the younger generations through complex, evolving markets in key sectors such as AI, decentralized finance, crypto, and space investments. We believe these sectors will define the next decade of the economy, and the younger generation will want to be part of that.'
Michael Peters, CEO of Moniify, discussed the platform's unique positioning in the market. 'The original concept was twofold,' he explained. 'There is currently no platform dedicated to finance and business that caters to millennials and Gen Z. Additionally, traditional media often presents a Western perspective on emerging markets. Our objective is to allow emerging markets to share more of their stories with the world.'
Moniify collaborates with content creators from various countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, and India, to produce videos that simplify complex concepts for young audiences. Ornella Hernandez, one of the platform's presenters, will focus on space technology in her videos. 'Our initial video, set to release this week, will explore how companies are manufacturing satellites in the region,' she said. 'We will also cover topics like crypto, AI, and the energy crisis.'
Uptin Saiidi, who hosts a daily show on the platform, acknowledged the challenge of catering to diverse target markets. 'The challenge lies in how to present news about Saudi or UAE in a way that resonates with someone in Indonesia,' he said. 'We are constantly mindful of this when shaping our content. Our focus is on ensuring that even if some content isn't relevant to someone in Singapore, we make it accessible.'
For the brother-sister duo Sara and Aaron Wee, who create content as 'The Weeblings' on Instagram, Moniify represents a shift from their usual style. 'On Moniify, we will discuss macroeconomics in a way that relates to everyday life,' Aaron explained. 'For instance, how interest rates impact buying a house.' Sara added that the research required for each video is extensive. 'These videos are highly educational, so we ensure thorough research for each one,' she said.
