Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are having a great time in the UK. After reports that the couple moved to England following Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, DeGeneres, 65, and de Rossi, 51, were spotted enjoying a night out at a local pub in Burford, UK earlier this month.
In a video shared on The Farmer’s Dog’s Instagram page, a band is playing while the camera focuses on a table where the former talk show host, sporting brunette hair over her usual blonde, is seen smiling next to her wife of 16 years. The video was filmed by Lisa Hogan, girlfriend of UK talk show host and pub owner Jeremy Clarkson, who turned the camera to show de Rossi seated next to DeGeneres, who waved at the camera. The clip also featured artist Natalie Imbruglia singing along as The Corrs gave an acoustic performance. Singer James Blunt was also tagged in the post.
“What a great night in the pub with @thecorrsofficial,” the caption read. “The way a good pub night should be… acoustic set, a few drinks, great friends.” The footage resurfaced after sources told The Wrap that DeGeneres and de Rossi packed up and moved to the UK. The insider added that the comedian and actress are preparing to put their Montecito, Calif., mansion on the market to start afresh abroad. The pair, who wed in 2008, will likely “never” return to the US on a permanent basis, the source shared.
Separate sources told TMZ that the duo decided to “get the hell out” of the country immediately following the President-elect’s victory, which left them feeling “very disillusioned.” During the election season, DeGeneres was vocal about her support of the Vice President and reportedly donated $3,300 to her campaign. In August, the “Finding Nemo” star publicly endorsed Harris on Instagram, captioning her post, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”
The stand-up, who reportedly boasts a $370 million net worth, has had an extensive property portfolio over the years. Her most recent purchase was in Montecito, which she and de Rossi bought in 2019 for $27 million. DeGeneres and de Rossi lived next door to their good friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Now, they are reportedly living in the Cotswolds in South West England, which is almost two hours from London. But the couple will still have a star-studded list of neighbors across the pond, including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, and Jeremy Clarkson. The area is also home to royalty, as King Charles and Queen Camilla own Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
Meanwhile, DeGeneres marks the second high-profile celebrity to flee the US following Trump’s win. Last week, Eva Longoria said she and her family have swapped “dystopian” US for a brighter life in Mexico and Spain. “I had my whole adult life here,” the “Desperate Housewives” alum told Marie Claire. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge.” “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now,” Longoria, 49, added. “The shocking part is not that he won,” the star, who spent the summer volunteering to rally voters for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, explained. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.” “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” Longoria admitted.
