US billionaire Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that 'Starlink is now active in a Gaza hospital with the support of the UAE and Israel.' Starlink, the world's first and largest satellite constellation, utilizes low Earth orbit to provide broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more. This service, powered by advanced satellites, offers high-speed, low-latency internet access to users worldwide. Musk did not specify the hospital's name in his brief statement on X. Israeli media sources revealed that the Israeli government had greenlit the use of Starlink services at a UAE-funded hospital in the Gaza Strip earlier this year. The UAE has established a field hospital in the Gaza Strip to assist Palestinians injured in the conflict between Hamas and Israel. This hospital has been continuously providing medical care to Gaza's residents under extremely challenging conditions, particularly in Rafah. The UAE medical team has been performing daily surgeries, including the removal of metal implants and an endoscopy for a patient with war-induced fractures, preventing limb amputation. The telecommunications network in Palestinian territories has suffered significant damage due to the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel since October last year, leaving Palestinians in the UAE and elsewhere unable to connect with their families and friends. Earlier this month, the UAE supplied three tonnes of medical supplies and various medications to bolster the healthcare sector and support hospitals operating in the Gaza Strip.
