Music icon Elton John revealed to a London theatre audience on Sunday that he has lost his sight following a struggle to recover from an eye infection earlier this year. The 77-year-old, famous for songs like Tiny Dancer and Your Song, was in London's West End for the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical, for which he composed the score. During an emotional address from the Dominion Theatre stage at the end of the performance, he shared that although the show sounded good, he was unable to watch it.

"As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven't been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it," John said, adding, "I love to hear it," which was met with enthusiastic applause. With over 300 million records sold in a career spanning six decades, John expressed concerns about his health in a documentary that aired in September, stating, "This is the latter time of my life. I don't know how much time I have left." In a September Instagram post, he had expressed optimism about his eye's healing process after an infection in July. However, two months later, he told ABC News that he could no longer see out of his right eye and his left eye was not in the best condition, preventing him from reading or watching anything. This condition has also kept him away from the studio where he was working on a new album.

"It's been a while since I've done anything," he said. "There's hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but it's, I'm kind of stuck at the moment." John, who rose to fame in the early 1970s, embarked on a farewell tour from 2018 to 2023.
