Elton John has provided an update on his vision issues. The 77-year-old EGOT winner disclosed in an interview with Robin Roberts on 'Good Morning America' on Monday that he has lost sight in his right eye due to an infection that developed over the summer, impacting his ability to create new music.

"It's been a while since I've done anything. I just have to get off my backside," John said. "I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France," the music icon continued. "It's been four months now since I haven't been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest."

"There's hope and encouragement that it will be okay," John went on, "but I'm kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know. Because I can't see a lyric for start."

The 'Rocket Man' singer mentioned he's "taking an initiative" to address his eye problems and that "it's never fortunate for anything like this to happen." "It kind of floored me, and I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't watch anything," he explained.

Despite his challenges, John referred to himself as "the luckiest man in the world" during the interview, which was conducted to promote his upcoming documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late.' "I'm so proud of the documentary. I'm proud of my sons. I'm proud of my attitude towards myself and what's going on," he said. "I'm just very lucky and I'm very grateful."

The documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler and John's husband, David Furnish, delves into the legendary performer's 50-year career leading up to his final North American show at Dodger Stadium in 2022. It begins streaming Dec. 13 on Disney+.

John previously discussed his vision struggles in September, revealing on Instagram that he was dealing with a severe optic infection that left him with "limited vision" in one of his eyes. "I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye," John said.

The 'I'm Still Standing' singer has faced numerous health issues over the years, including several organ removals and knee and hip replacement surgeries. He also had a pacemaker fitted for an irregular heartbeat in the 1990s, was hospitalized for influenza and a bacterial infection in 2009, had an abscess discovered on his appendix in 2013, and suffered from "gastric flu" in 2016. Additionally, he has dealt with hearing loss due to years of touring.

In 2021, friends of John's expressed concern about the singer before the next leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which he finally concluded last year. "He is not Superman," one musician, who has known John for decades, told The Post at the time. "He should be at home with his kids and his husband, not stuck on the road. I worry that he won't finish this tour."
