Debbie Nelson, the mother of the renowned rapper Eminem, has passed away at the age of 69. Nelson succumbed to advanced lung cancer on Monday night in St. Joseph, Missouri, as reported by TMZ.

In September, it was revealed that Nelson was terminally ill with lung cancer and had limited time left. A source close to her told In Touch, “There are not many options [for Debbie]. She is currently staying between the cancer center and with family members. She has a very limited amount of time left.”

Despite not having spoken to his mother for years, Eminem, 52, was reportedly supporting her financially. The source added, “People around her aren’t even sure if Eminem is even aware of what is happening to his mother. He’s good to his mom. He makes sure he takes care of her, but they don’t really talk. It would be good for both of them [to communicate]. This could give them the chance to reconcile.”

Nelson gave birth to Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, when she was just 18 years old. She had Eminem with her high school sweetheart, Marshall Bruce Mathers, whom she married in 1970. Their marriage ended shortly after Eminem’s birth.

The relationship between Eminem and Nelson was often tumultuous. In 1999, Nelson sued Eminem for defamation over the lyrics of his debut album “The Slim Shady LP.” According to ABC News, Nelson won the lawsuit but received only $25,000 after initially seeking $11 million. She reportedly walked away with less than $2,000 after legal fees.

More details are expected to emerge soon.
