Dubai-based Emirates has suspended flights to Dhaka amid the current civil unrest in Bangladesh. The affected flights include EK587 on August 5 from Dhaka to Dubai, EK584 on the same day from Dubai to Dhaka, and EK585 on August 6 from Dhaka to Dubai.
In a recent travel advisory, the UAE's flagship carrier announced that passengers intending to connect to Dhaka on August 6 will not be permitted to travel from their original departure points. Emirates is closely observing the situation and has advised customers who booked directly with the airline to reach out to their local Emirates office for rebooking options. Customers who booked through travel agents are urged to contact their agents for alternative travel plans.
Emirates recommends that customers check the 'Manage Your Booking' section for the most current flight information. The decision to cancel flights comes in the wake of significant political upheaval in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country, concluding her 15-year tenure. This move followed violent protests on Sunday that resulted in nearly 100 fatalities. The unrest was ignited by the reinstatement of job quotas for highly competitive civil service roles.
