The Emirates Golf Club witnessed a vibrant start to the new season as Joseph Andrade and Josie Tracey, the newly appointed Captains, officially commenced their tenure with a memorable Captains' Drive-In ceremony. Members of the club gathered to show their support and celebrate the beginning of a new era for one of Dubai's most prestigious golf clubs.
Men's Captain Andrade expressed his gratitude to the members for their continuous support and extended special thanks to the previous captains, Frank Duggan and Fiona Berry, for their exceptional service. "They have set a high standard with their commitment and enthusiasm for the club," Andrade acknowledged, highlighting the significant contributions of Duggan and Berry in fostering the club's growth and camaraderie.
The ceremonial drive was a significant moment for Andrade. Known for his calm yet competitive spirit, he executed a smooth and powerful drive that covered 214 yards, marking a strong start to his captaincy. The conditions were challenging with a stiff breeze and soft fairways, but Andrade's shot was impeccable. Lady Captain Josie Tracey, displaying equal composure, followed with a drive of 119 yards, which was met with warm applause, symbolizing the united strength of the club's leadership.
The event marked not only the ceremonial drives but also the beginning of the 2024-2025 season at the Emirates Golf Club. To celebrate, a full field of 36 teams participated in a tournament, starting with a 1 pm shotgun in a four-player Team Scramble format. Each player was required to contribute at least three tee shots. The winning team, comprising Raj Janardhan, Sanjay Raina, Mustafa Khan, and Arman Singh, achieved an impressive net score of 53, 19 under par, using a handicap allowance of 7. They started on Hole 15 and recorded an astonishing seven eagles on holes 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 16, and 18, along with five birdies and six pars. Their score was one shot better than three other teams tied on 18 under par, securing a well-deserved victory.
