The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) recently hosted an engaging workshop in partnership with The R&A's 'Unleash your Drive' schools golf program at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The event was tailored for school educators and saw participation from 33 teachers primarily from Emirates School Establishment (ESE) and ESM schools in Dubai. The global golf initiative is being implemented in the UAE by the EGF, involving school teachers in delivering the program with the backing of UAE golf clubs and facilities like TOPGOLF Dubai. The workshop included training on using GolfWay equipment, supervised by EGF Director of Instruction and National Team Coach, Cameron van Rooyen, and Nick Horrocks, Director of Strategic Partnership, Golf Development Advisor, and Consultant with The R&A and GolfWay. The program has already commenced in Abu Dhabi, involving five schools.

Cameron Van Rooyen, the UAE National Coach, highlighted at the launch: "This program will enhance the efforts of golf clubs and promote Par 3 golf facilities as part of the pathway into golf, along with other engaging formats at the beginner level, such as the existing Golf Sixes mini-leagues and our Future Falcons." The EGF has collaborated with Golfway to offer enhanced support and equipment crucial for beginner-level golf. "The program is designed for children of all ages and nationalities, focusing mainly on those under 12," added Van Rooyen. Initially, teachers will introduce the program to youngsters at school playing fields and gymnasiums using Golfway equipment with soft balls and setting up mini-golf courses.

"We are committed to advancing the sport of golf at all levels. We anticipate collaborating with our partners, UAE schools, and golf clubs to foster grassroots golf development," stated Akram Skaik, Director General of the EGF. "The next phase involves integrating golf into schools as an extracurricular activity, progressing to the successful junior programs at UAE golf clubs and the EGF’s Future Falcons program. There are already over 1,500 juniors participating in annual Junior Golf Programs across UAE golf clubs," Skaik added. "Our goal is to establish a structured pathway with the support of all UAE golf industry stakeholders at every level, raising awareness among parents and children that golf is an accessible sport. School-level awareness is crucial for expanding the game." In conclusion, Van Rooyen mentioned: "Our forthcoming steps include strengthening existing ties with UAE golf clubs, conducting more teacher training sessions, and encouraging schools to collaborate with clubs to create a seamless pathway to participation."
