Emirates SkyCargo anticipates operating a fleet of 21 production-built Boeing 777 freighters by December 2026. This projection is based on a firm order placed by Emirates for five additional Boeing 777 freighters, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026. Combined with previous orders, Emirates now has 14 Boeing 777Fs pending delivery until the end of 2026. Furthermore, Emirates has extended its multi-year lease with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise for four Boeing 777Fs in its current fleet.
These strategic investments are expected to significantly expand Emirates SkyCargo's fleet from its current 11 units to 21 by December 2026. Additionally, Emirates is committed to converting 10 passenger Boeing 777-3000ERs into freighters to enhance capacity and fleet growth. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, emphasized the need for new freighter aircraft to meet escalating demand and provide customers with enhanced flexibility and connectivity.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed pride in supporting Emirates SkyCargo's growth, highlighting the performance and versatility of the 777 Freighter. Emirates' cargo division will continue to leverage its all-wide-body passenger fleet for the swift and efficient movement of goods worldwide, offering a diverse fleet mix of 777s, 777-Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s.
The Dubai government's expansion plans for Al Maktoum International airport (DWC) aim to establish the world's largest hub in terms of capacity, capable of processing 12 million tonnes of cargo annually. This initiative supports the growth of the nearby Logistics District, envisioned as an international base for global cargo and shipping companies, contributing to Dubai's goal of becoming the leading multi-modal cargo hub.
Emirates plans to finalize its decision on the future freighter fleet for 2028-29 and beyond by the end of this year, with the Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350-1000F under consideration.
