As Emirati families prepare for their summer holidays, certain items inevitably top their packing lists. These include a special bag for their karak tea paraphernalia and ingredients for traditional Emirati meals, as well as local incense.
"Karak tea is an essential part of our summer vacation," shared Shaikha M, a mother of three. "Regardless of our destination, we bring our karak pot, portable stove, saffron, and fresh milk. It's more than just a drink; it's a tradition that connects us to our home and family memories." Shaikha and her family have enjoyed brewing this iconic tea in the Swiss Alps, often attracting curious onlookers who are invited to partake.
For Latifa Al Kaabi, a resident of Abu Dhabi, the karak setup isn't the sole item she packs. "We also bring ingredients for our beloved Emirati dishes like biryani. While we love sampling local cuisines, nothing compares to the taste of our home-cooked meals." Latifa emphasizes that this dedicated bag is often packed first, even ahead of personal items, as they can't envision a vacation without it.
Mariam M., another Emirati, highlights the significance of the karak bag, describing it as a family member. "We take it everywhere, even abroad," she said, remembering its presence from her childhood. Mariam also mentioned another essential for their vacations: Emirati incense, which her mother never forgets to pack.
For these families, the karak tea and Emirati cuisine bag serve as a source of comfort and a link to their traditions. "It's about the memories and customs we carry with us," concluded Shaikha. "We ensure we're never without, especially when the moment calls for a cup of karak."
