Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu is in a race to be fit for Britain's participation in next month's Billie Jean King Cup finals after another tournament withdrawal. The 21-year-old announced on X that she is pulling out of next week's Hong Kong Open due to a lack of match fitness.
Raducanu has not played since retiring midway through her quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina at the Korea Open last month. She revealed that she had sprained ligaments in her foot. "I'm sorry to say that I will not be able to play in Hong Kong next week. While my foot is making good progress, I need a little more time before I am match fit," she stated.
The world No 55 is doing everything she can to be ready for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, where Anne Keothavong's team will face Germany on November 15. The winner of that tie will go on to face defending champions Canada in the quarter-finals, who received a bye.
This marks the fifth tournament that the British No 2 has withdrawn from since her latest setback. Since her grand slam victory in 2021, Raducanu has been dealing with a series of injury issues, most notably ankle and wrist problems that required surgery.
