EMSTEEL, a public joint stock company, stands as the UAE’s largest steel and building materials manufacturer. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, EMSTEEL supplies high-quality, low-carbon products to both the local market and over 70 international markets, creating a comprehensive solution for sustainable manufacturing and construction sectors.
In alignment with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, EMSTEEL has emerged as a global leader in low-carbon steel production. The company is the first globally to capture CO2, operate with energy efficiency, source the majority of its electricity needs through clean energy, and utilize recycled scrap in its processes. In 2023, EMSTEEL utilized 84% clean electricity in its steel business unit, significantly advancing its decarbonisation efforts, as evidenced by a more than 50% year-on-year increase in renewable materials used in steel production.
As a dominant player in the region with a 60% share of the UAE’s steel market, EMSTEEL prioritizes driving sustainability in construction and manufacturing. The group partnered with Masdar to establish the MENA region’s first green hydrogen demonstration project for the steel industry, which commenced production in October. This initiative aims to decarbonize the steel sector, contributing to a greener future. If scaled up, this transformative project could drastically reduce CO2 emissions in steelmaking through the use of green hydrogen, aligning with the UAE’s vision of becoming a major hydrogen producer by 2031.
EMSTEEL’s commitment to low-carbon innovation is also reflected in its products. The sustainable ES600 high-strength steel rebar, with a 18-24% reduced steel consumption, redefines sustainability and efficiency. Its incorporation in prominent projects like Al Habtoor Group’s ‘Al Habtoor Tower’ and SOBHA Realty’s “SOBHA Crest” marks a significant step towards sustainable construction methodologies in Dubai’s thriving real estate market.
EMSTEEL’s dedication to sustainability is further reinforced by its pioneering AI-led Green Steel Monitoring & Certification System, created in partnership with Sentra World. This system enables real-time monitoring of decarbonisation initiatives, ensuring blockchain-enabled traceability and offering a digital wallet for carbon credits.
Additionally, EMSTEEL launched the DitchCarbon Emissions Intelligence subscription, aiding suppliers in tracking and reducing carbon emissions. The group also introduced a three-year ESG and Sustainability assessment program, evaluating suppliers on governance, supply chain management, human rights, employee well-being, and environmental stewardship.
EMSTEEL’s steel business unit was recognized as a 2024 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association. The group also won the Sustainable Manufacturer Award from the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and was selected by the World Economic Forum as one of the five steel producers globally taking tangible action to decarbonize the steel value chain.
EMSTEEL is proud to lead sustainable change across construction and manufacturing, committed to elevating global sustainability standards through a low-carbon supply chain in collaboration with public and private sector partners.
