England secured a comfortable 3-1 win away to Finland in the Nations League on Sunday, while Austria defeated Erling Haaland's Norway 5-1. Jack Grealish put England ahead in the first half, followed by a superb free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Declan Rice sealed the victory in the final 20 minutes. Arttu Hoskonen scored a late consolation goal for the hosts.

The England team was more recognizable compared to the one that lost to Greece at Wembley on Thursday. Interim manager Lee Carsley made several changes after the previous striker-less formation failed. "The team responded really well — in the best way," Carsley told ITV. "They scored three good goals. We were a lot better tonight. We played with a lot more control. We had massive possession, lots and lots of passes and created chances. But we can do better."

Manchester City's Grealish broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, finishing off a well-crafted 17-pass move. Angel Gomes, starting in central midfield, played a clever through ball that Grealish ran onto and rolled past the goalkeeper. Finland had several chances to equalize but failed to trouble Dean Henderson in the England goal.

Alexander-Arnold, playing at left-back instead of his usual right-back position at Liverpool, doubled the lead on 74 minutes with a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner. Rice secured England's third Nations League win in four Group B2 games by scoring from a cross by substitute Ollie Watkins with six minutes remaining.

Finland remains at the bottom of the table, having lost all their games, but Hoskonen's header in the 87th minute at least doubled their goal tally for the campaign. Greece leads the group with a three-point advantage over England after a 2-0 win against the Republic of Ireland in Athens.

In other matches, Marko Arnautovic scored a brace as Austria thrashed Norway 5-1 in Linz. Manchester City star Haaland had a forgettable night as the Austrian defense effectively subdued the Norwegian captain. Slovenia sits third in the group, level on points with both Norway and Austria, after a 1-0 win in Kazakhstan.

On Monday, Belgium hosts 2021 Nations League champions France, while old rivals Germany and Netherlands face off in Munich.
