In the UAE, a vehicle ownership certificate is essential for both buying and driving a car. In Dubai, this certificate guarantees that both the owner and the vehicle are registered with the government. It contains detailed information about the owner and the vehicles they own. The certificate can be renewed and transferred when a vehicle is sold to a new owner. If a motorist needs to update any critical details on the certificate, here's how they can proceed.

Before applying for any amendments to the vehicle ownership certificate, several prerequisites must be met. The customer must settle all traffic fines and verify the validity of the vehicle's ownership. If mortgage information needs to be changed, the owner must electronically add or redeem the mortgage at the bank. For changes in insurance companies, the motorist must input the new insurance details and cancel the previous one. It is also important to note that vehicles cannot be painted in colors designated for armed forces or government departments, nor can they have sticky window sun shades.

The service for amending vehicle ownership certificate details can be accessed online through the Government of Dubai's website. Different documents are required depending on the type of owner and the change requested. For companies adding a commercial sticker to their vehicle, the following documents are necessary: Vehicle ownership certificate, Vehicle technical inspection certificate, Copy of valid trade licence, Official letter in Arabic from the company, Endorsement of signature, Authorisation letter or the presence of the representative, and Permit to add a commercial sticker (obtainable from a customer happiness centre). For companies changing the type of vehicle (e.g., from truck to van or vice versa), additional documents include: Vehicle technical inspection certificate, Approval of Dubai Municipality or municipal test certificate from an RTA service centre, Copy of trade licence, Endorsement of signature, Authorisation letter, and Official letter in Arabic from the company clarifying the nature of change.

For individuals or companies changing a vehicle's color, the required documents are: Vehicle ownership certificate, Vehicle technical inspection certificate, and a Letter from the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police. Individuals must provide their original Emirates ID for updating information if the ID has expired or to verify the applicant's identity. Companies must submit an official letter in Arabic from the company, clarifying the nature of change, along with a Copy of trade license, Endorsement of signature, and Authorisation letter or the presence of the representative.

The fees for these services are as follows: Dh50 for a new ownership certificate, Dh100 for ownership amendment, Dh500 for sticker fees, and an additional Dh500 for adding an additional sticker. There is also an additional Dh20 charge for innovation and knowledge fees.
