UAE's flag carrier Etihad Airways has announced the termination of its unilateral codeshare and bilateral frequent flyer partnership with Virgin Australia, effective June 1, 2025. As a result, passengers will no longer be able to book Virgin Australia-operated flights through Etihad’s booking channels. Additionally, members will cease to earn Guest Miles on Virgin Australia-operated flights starting June 1, 2025.

However, Etihad customers with existing bookings that include a Virgin Australia-operated segment will not experience any changes to their itineraries. The decision to end the partnership is indicative of a divergence in the strategic directions of the respective airlines.

Etihad has emphasized its continued commitment to serving Australia. In the summer of 2025, the airline plans to increase flights to Sydney and Melbourne.
