For numerous travelers on extended flights, the UAE often serves as a midway point. If you find yourself with a few hours in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, seize the opportunity to immerse yourself in a snippet of Emirati culture. The airports in the UAE are committed to providing a smooth, hassle-free experience for passengers, with features like smart gates and home check-ins allowing for swift processing of flight formalities. Transit passengers are also catered to with exceptional efforts by the authorities to ensure their layover is worthwhile, provided they have a transit visa unless exempt. (Here's a guide to obtaining one.)

Travelers stopping over in the UAE can explore the area without the burden of luggage. There's no need to drag multiple suitcases around while snapping photos at iconic locations like the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai or the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Luggage can be stored at designated areas in the airport for a fee.

In Dubai, short-term baggage storage is accessible around the clock at Dubai International Airport's (DXB) Terminals 1 and 3. Terminal 1 users can leave their bags at Dnata Baggage Services in the arrivals area, near Boots Pharmacy and Etisalat. Fees are Dh40 for 12 hours or less for standard-size luggage (maximum size 21 by 24 by 11 inches) and Dh50 for larger, non-standard size luggage or valuable items. Terminal 3 visitors can utilize the 'Emirates Left Luggage' area near Exit 1, behind Boots Pharmacy. Fees here are Dh35 for 12 hours or less for standard-size luggage and Dh40 for larger, non-standard size luggage or valuable items.

In Abu Dhabi, transit travelers wishing to explore more of the city can use the storage facility at Zayed International Airport. The service is located in the Arrivals section, Level 0, across from Etisalat and next to the Lost and Found center. Fees are Dh35 for up to 3 hours, Dh70 for up to 24 hours, Dh105 for up to 48 hours, and Dh140 for up to 72 hours. Note that after 72 hours, an additional fee of Dh35 per day applies.
