Fourteen years is a significant gap between sequels, but Fable—the first game in the action-RPG series since Fable 3 in 2010—was finally unveiled earlier this year during Summer Game Fest.
While we haven't seen a new trailer since then, a recent report suggests that the upcoming sequel will feature combat mechanics akin to CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3. Windows Central's Jez Corden recently revealed that he was shown alpha footage of Fable, which he described as having 'CD Projekt RED DNA' in the way the main character handled herself in battle.
Corden also noted that the combat transitioned smoothly from melee weapons like swords to magical attacks, similar to how Geralt fights in The Witcher 3. He mentioned that it wasn't an exact replica of Geralt's combat style, but it was impressive nonetheless.
Corden discussed some of the game's enemies, including a giant chicken—which he described as 'dangerous' and 'scary'—and a werewolf that players could lure with bacon, eggs, and sausages, or 'a full English breakfast,' to coax it out of its lair.
The unnamed female main character from the first trailer was confirmed by Corden, who also mentioned that players might have the option to select a character, though he hasn't seen the male model yet. If new footage from Fable is set to debut this year, it will likely be at The Game Awards next month.
Fable is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025.
