Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia have announced the launch of the first direct flight from Sharjah to the Maldives, enhancing travel options for customers. The new route is set to commence on October 27 and will feature daily flights between Sharjah Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé, Maldives, utilizing Airbus A320 aircraft.

"The introduction of this new route underscores Sharjah Airport's pivotal role in bolstering the aviation sector in the region," stated Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA). "This new route is instrumental in fortifying economic and tourism links between the UAE and the Maldives, paving the way for fresh avenues of economic and commercial collaboration between the two nations," he added.

Al Midfa elaborated that since the Maldives is a highly coveted tourist destination globally, it "inspires us to redouble our efforts in delivering top-notch services for passengers who will be traveling through Sharjah Airport on their direct flights to these enchanting islands."

Adel Al Ali, group chief executive officer of Air Arabia, remarked: "The inaugural flight to the Maldives marks a thrilling new milestone in our network expansion. We are eager to provide our customers with direct access to this tropical haven. With the addition of this new route, we reaffirm our dedication to offering affordable and value-driven air travel, while expanding our customers' options to explore new destinations worldwide."

Sharjah Airport Authority's strategic blueprint aims to elevate the airport's capacity to 25 million passengers. This initiative includes attracting international airlines, boosting the number of international flights, and broadening the network of new destinations through strategic collaborations with key stakeholders.

"Sharjah Airport is steadily expanding its footprint on the global travel landscape, and we are resolute in adding new direct destinations for airlines operating through our airport," Al Midfa emphasized.

Hassaan Waheed, deputy ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the UAE, graced the inaugural ceremony of the first flight, accompanied by a delegation of officials and directors from SAA and Air Arabia.
