The inaugural harvest of natural honey in the Al Muntathar Reserve in Sharjah signifies a pivotal achievement in the nation's pursuit of food security. This harvest underscores Sharjah's dedication to fostering an organic food system, alongside other products such as Mleiha milk and a variety of agricultural goods. The Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Authority has prioritized the adoption of innovative techniques to tailor beekeeping to the local climate, resulting in honey that boasts unique health benefits due to the region's diverse flora.

Dr. Engineer Khalifa Musabah Al-Tuniji, Chairman of the Agriculture and Livestock Department and CEO of the Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Authority 'Iktifa', emphasized that Sharjah's distinctive geographical attributes, including its mountainous landscape and abundant ecosystems, substantially elevate the quality of the honey produced.

The honey production project is distinguished by its focus on the sustainability of beekeeping in an area rich with Sidr, Samr, and Ghaf trees, whether within natural reserves or Sharjah's pastures. Among the finest varieties of honey, Emirati honey from Ghaf and Sidr trees is renowned for its rarity and numerous therapeutic properties. Dr. Al-Tuniji recently announced the successful harvest during a ceremony graced by various officials and department directors.

He underscored the project's alignment with the vision of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and its potential to bolster the beekeeping sector in the emirate. 'The honey production initiative is crucial for sustainable agricultural development and supports our organic food security system,' Dr. Al-Tuniji stated.

Scheduled to commence commercial production in the first half of 2025, dubbed 'the Golden Year', the project aims to highlight the environmental advantages of beekeeping, particularly its role in pollination, which is essential for the reproduction of plants and trees. This initiative seeks to diversify food sources and establish Sharjah as a leading center for organic honey production, paving the way for sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the emirate's agricultural sector.
