Last year, the film adaptation of Five Nights At Freddy's unexpectedly dominated the box office, and a sequel was greenlit earlier this year. Josh Hutcherson will once again step into the shoes of Mike Schmidt, the night guard at a restaurant plagued by the spirits of murdered children who inhabit eerie animatronic creations. According to Hutcherson, the sequel promises not only more animatronics but also an even greater sense of terror than its predecessor.

"It's gonna be scarier," Hutcherson revealed in a recent interview with Esquire. "The scale is much larger; the stakes are higher... We're introducing more animatronics, different ones, and the world expands significantly." The film is expected to draw heavily from the Five Nights At Freddy's 2 video game, which introduced the Puppet and Balloon Boy animatronics alongside the familiar characters Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. While Hutcherson refrained from divulging specific plot details, he did hint at a broader world expansion.

"We're currently finding the right balance between expanding this world in a compelling way and ensuring the characters remain grounded," Hutcherson explained. "In the first film, we all fought hard to maintain the emotional truth of the characters because the world of Five Nights at Freddy's is so surreal and over-the-top. Finding that emotional core was crucial to making it work." So far, Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard are the only confirmed returning cast members from the original film. Five Night's At Freddy's 2 is slated for release on December 5, 2025.
