The UAE Mission in Madrid has advised citizens in Spain to remain vigilant due to the hazardous weather conditions affecting several regions. At least 158 lives have been lost since a powerful Mediterranean storm brought torrential rains to Spain this week, with the eastern regions bearing the brunt of the damage. The severe weather has impacted Valencia, Catalonia, Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands.

The UAE mission emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines issued by local authorities and provided emergency contact numbers: 0097180024 or 00971800444444, as well as the need to register with the Tawajudi service. Experts attribute the catastrophic flooding, the worst Spain has seen in a generation, to powerful storms exacerbated by climate change, inadequate urban planning, and human negligence.

King Felipe VI cautioned that the emergency situation is "still not over," and the national weather service, AEMET, issued high alert levels for rain in parts of eastern and southern regions on Thursday. In a somber response, flags were flown at half-mast on government buildings, and minutes of silence were observed nationwide at the start of three days of national mourning for the victims of the devastating floods.
