This year, the floods in Assam have resulted in the death of 215 animals at Kaziranga National Park, including 13 one-horned rhinos, according to officials. Sonali Ghosh, the field director of Kaziranga National Park, reported that 13 one-horned rhinos perished due to drowning in the park's floodwaters. During the floods, park authorities managed to rescue 157 wild animals, which included two rhino calves and two elephant calves. Sonali Ghosh further mentioned that 137 of these animals were released after receiving treatment, while seven are still undergoing treatment. Three forest camps are submerged - one each in Agratoli, Kaziranga, and Bagori range.

Previously, an eight-member high-level Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from various Indian government ministries visited several districts in Assam to evaluate the flood damage. Led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mihir Kumar, the team concluded their assessment after meeting with senior officials of the Assam government at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Dispur on Saturday. The IMCT was split into two groups and visited flood-affected districts such as Dibrugarh, Majuli, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. Mihir Kumar expressed that the team had a comprehensive view of the damages caused by the recent floods in Assam. He commended the preparedness of the districts and the Assam government, as well as the swift and effective relief operations carried out in the flood-affected areas.
