Director John Crowley recently disclosed that actress Florence Pugh astounded him by shaving her head for her role in the forthcoming film We Live in Time. Pugh made this daring decision without consulting anyone, leaving the director unprepared. "She didn't inform anyone [about shaving her head]. It was quite unsettling for me. I was like, 'Wow,'" Crowley shared with The Hollywood Reporter. During their initial meeting, Crowley recalled Pugh saying, "The first time I met her, she mentioned, 'Oh, by the way, I want to shave my head.' Before meeting her, I had thought she might ask me, 'What are we going to do about shaving the head?'"
Although her new appearance turned out to be unnecessary when Marvel's Thunderbolts halted production in June 2023 due to the writers' strike, Crowley remained appreciative of her dedication. He likened her commitment to that of actor Gerard Butler, who had previously supported a smaller indie film. Pugh's choice to shave her head demonstrated her firm belief in authenticity. The actress declined to use bald wigs, believing they wouldn't look genuine. Crowley admired her bravery and innovation. "The smaller, more independent film was where the actor said, 'This is the one I'm going to fully commit to and not compromise creatively on,'" he stated.
We Live in Time features Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield in their first joint project. The film, penned by Nick Payne, delves into themes of love, grief, and redemption. Both Pugh and Garfield have been acclaimed for their acting abilities, making this movie highly anticipated by viewers.
