The Ford Mustang GTD is poised to become one of the most impressive cars of 2025. The final stages of testing for this coupe, which was unveiled at Monterey last year, are progressing smoothly, with engineers conducting numerous laps at the Nürburgring. Both its appearance and sound are highly commendable.

The CarSpyMedia YouTube channel recently captured footage of two Mustang GTD prototypes racing around the Nordschleife during an industry test session. Both vehicles appeared to be operating at full capacity, demonstrating remarkable speed through the faster sections of the track. This marks not the first instance of the GTD being spotted at the Nürburgring; earlier in June, a black-painted prototype was observed maneuvering aggressively on the tarmac. However, there have been some significant modifications this time, particularly with the exhaust system. The previously squared-off tips have been replaced with smaller, circular openings, presumably to reduce the noise from the 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, which Ford claims will generate over 800 horsepower.

The blue prototype, which debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, still bears its stickers from the hillclimb event. In certain photographs, the car is seen with a different trunk lid that appears to be made of bare carbon. Regardless of whether it's the blue or black car, the GTD's exceptional sound quality is undeniable. With the quieter exhaust, the supercharger's whine is clearly audible from beneath the hood. The combination of a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle and a pushrod suspension inspired by race cars ensures the vehicle's high performance capabilities.

There has been no official announcement regarding whether Ford plans to attempt a Nürburgring lap record with the Mustang GTD. However, given its impressive features, it wouldn't be surprising if it managed to break the seven-minute barrier.
