Ford has once again issued a recall for the Maverick, this time affecting 144,000 pickups. The issue at hand involves the rear camera images potentially freezing during reversing, which poses a significant safety concern. This recall specifically targets the 2022-2024 model year trucks.

According to the Safety Recall Report, the affected vehicles are all equipped with Connected Touch Radios. Upon discovering a potential problem in June 2024, Ford conducted stress tests on the system, which revealed a memory leak in the software. This glitch could lead to a frozen rearview camera display image, causing the image processing path to fail. Additionally, the automaker identified four other vulnerabilities that could result in the image either not appearing or being delayed.

The defective software was used in trucks produced from February 3, 2021, to November 28, 2023. Ford has not been able to replicate the issue on newer versions of the software currently in production. The company has received four warranty claims, 22 complaints, and two reported accidents related to this issue, but no injuries have been reported.

Ford plans to address the problem with a software update that customers will need to have installed at a dealership. Owners will begin receiving notifications on September 30. This is not the first time Ford has recalled the Maverick in recent memory; earlier this year, the company recalled certain Mavericks due to a potential issue where the vehicles could shift into neutral on their own.
